Location  

Bamburi Beach is located in Mombasa County, along the north coast of Kenya, about 12 kilometers northeast of Mombasa city. The beach stretches for several kilometers along the Indian Ocean.

Climate

Bamburi Beach experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm and humid weather all year round, the temperature typically ranges from 25°C to 32°C. The highest temperatures occur between December and March, so if you love the heat, this is the perfect time to visit!

The rainy season runs from April to June, with short showers in the afternoon or evening. If you don’t mind a little rain, this can be a great time to visit as the beach will be less crowded.

However, the best time to visit Bamburi Beach is during the dry season which runs from July to October and from December to March. During this time, the weather is sunny and dry, making it ideal for soaking up the sun and enjoying the beach.

One of the best things about visiting Bamburi Beach during the dry season is the crystal-clear water. With little to no seaweed on the beach, you can enjoy the sand and water without any distractions. The water temperature during this time of year is around 27-28 degrees with little tides, so it’s perfect for swimming and other water activities.

Getting to Bamburi Beach

Bamburi Beach is easily accessible by road and public transport via the Mombasa Malindi read which is the main highway that runs through the city. The most convenient way to get to the beach is by taxi or private car.

There are also matatus (minibusses) that run from the Mombasa city center heading to Mtwapa or Kilifi and a typical one-way journey from town is about 100 Kenyan shillings. 

Matatutus can be boarded across the Huduma center or the Marikiti market.

Tuk-tuks and boda bodas are easily hailed from any location and the cost will depend on your bargaining ability.

Other means of getting there are via taxi-hailing apps including bolt, little cab, and uber.

• Next to the CowrieShell Beach Apartments

Additionally, visitors can walk from Pirates Beach near the Bamburi junction past The New Big Tree Hotel to access the beach.

Parking

Parking at Bamburi Beach can be a bit challenging for visitors arriving by car as there are no marked or designated public parking spaces available.
