Regional low-cost carrier, Jambojet, has recently launched a new early morning flight from Mombasa to Nairobi as part of its growing intercity flights in Kenya. The new flight, which is scheduled to depart from Mombasa at 6.35am and land in Nairobi (NBO) at 07:45am, is targeted towards business travelers who have early morning commitments in the Kenyan capital and wish to return to Mombasa for the night.
The previous earliest flight to Mombasa would take off from Mombasa’s Moi International Airport at 8:00 am, and a one-way journey ticket would cost an average of 7200 Ksh. However, Jambojet is now offering an introductory fare of Sh4,900 for a one-way ticket to passengers booking the new morning flight, which is expected to set it apart from its rivals.
The airline will be utilizing its current Kisumu to Mombasa flight as the last flight from Kisumu and would leave Mombasa the following day in the daytime.
Jambojet recently entered into a partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board to promote domestic tourism, which is also a recovery strategy for the company following the ongoing Covid pandemic that hit the tourism industry the hardest. The carrier has scaled its frequencies to nearly five in a day since the resumption of air services following a one-month lockdown that had been imposed by the government in March.
The launch of the new Mombasa-Nairobi flight is a strategic move by Jambojet to cater to the increasing demand for air travel in Kenya, especially among business travelers. The early morning flight allows business travelers to arrive in Nairobi in time for early morning meetings and return to Mombasa in the evening, giving them the opportunity to balance their work and personal life.
Furthermore, Jambojet’s partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board is expected to boost domestic tourism and contribute to the recovery of the tourism industry in Kenya, which has been hard hit by the pandemic.
