Sagalla Hills Marathon 2023
The Sagalla Hills Marathon is an annual event that takes place in Voi, Taita Taveta County, Kenya. Organized by the Diaspora University Trust in partnership with the County Government of Taita Taveta, this marathon involves running around the stunning hills of Sagalla.
The marathon covers a distance of 42 kilometres and attracts participants and spectators from all over the world. In its inaugural year, over 1000 runners took part, with locals leading the way. The number of participants is expected to increase as many have already begun registering for the next marathon.
Spectators have the option to watch and cheer for the runners from the hilltops, enjoying a breath-taking view of the Sagalla community and Voi town below.
What makes the Sagalla Hills Marathon unique is that the winners are awarded tour vouchers instead of traditional prizes. This allows them to explore the best of Taita Taveta’s tourism offerings. From experiencing the wildlife of Tsavo National Park to visiting the impressive Mzima Springs, there’s so much to discover. It’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss. The “After Marathon Tour” promises to be an incredible experience for all participants.
The marathon starts at Gimba, Voi-Kitibu Road and finishes at Gimba Grounds. Race entries can be done online through the website or through physical registration at specified office hours. Participants are required to pay an entry fee of Kshs. 500 for residents and USD 15 for non-residents.
The marathon offers a full marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers, open to individuals aged 18 years and above. The first 10 finishers will receive awards. Race T-shirts will be distributed during registration or in the race tunnels if there are any delays in delivery.
